Rimon Miami Partners Ignacio Alvarez and Carlos F. Gonzalez will assist as panelists at the Medical Cannabis Seminar in Miami, hosted by MedCan. The two attorneys will offer an update on the implementation of the medical marijuana laws in the State of Florida. About the panelists:

Ignacio M. Alvarez concentrates his practice on internal corporate investigations, corporate governance and compliance, civil litigation, regulatory matters, and political advocacy.  Throughout the years, Mr. Alvarez has developed a reputation in the area of internal investigations, having led successful efforts on behalf of clients throughout Latin America.  His expertise as an anti-money laundering consultant has also led him to develop cross-border compliance programs for companies throughout the Americas and Middle East.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Alvarez holds a senior leadership position in one of the largest police departments in the Southern United States.  Mr. Alvarez has also served as an advisor to the U.S. Department of State on matters involving Latin America.  Over the years, he has trained foreign law enforcement officers on a variety of legal, investigative, and management techniques.
Mr. Alvarez is an Adjunct Professor at Florida International University, where he teaches courses in criminal justice.  He is also a member of the Justice Advisory Committee at the Miami-Dade College School of Justice.

Carlos F. Gonzalez focuses his practice on the defense of criminal cases, regulatory matters, and select civil and commercial disputes in state and federal courts across the United States.  Mr. Gonzalez also maintains an active appellate and post-conviction practice.  He has successfully argued cases before state and federal courts of appeal, challenging numerous criminal convictions and obtaining new trials for clients charged with serious criminal offenses.
Mr. Gonzalez’s work  in the civil and commercial litigation matters typically involve allegations of fraud or other misconduct in the course of domestic and international business transactions.  Some of Mr. Gonzalez’s cases have involved path-breaking litigation in the area of extraterritorial application of U.S. laws.  Other cases, have involved allegations of fraud and civil conspiracy.
In addition to the private practice of law, Mr. Gonzalez has served as an adjunct professor of law at the Florida International University College of Law as well as the Shepard Broad School of Law at Nova University.  He is also the founder and executive director of Liberty City Advocates, a free legal clinic based in Miami’s historic Liberty City neighborhood. Mr. Gonzalez is a frequent speaker and has addressed audiences throughout Latin America and Asia on topics ranging from effective litigation strategies, developing effective anti-money laundering programs, and conducting internal investigations.
