Rimon Partner Marc Kaufman recently participated in a panel at the World Trade Organization on IP and Blockchain Technology.

Marc’s session covered the following: Intellectual property protection, in particular patent protection, is crucial to the development and deployment of blockchain technology. In recent years, the number of patent applications for blockchain related innovations have been growing rapidly. Meanwhile blockchain technology is finding its applications in intellectual property protection and management, while its true potential has yet to be reached. This session will introduce the current patent landscape of blockchain related innovations, its trends and new challenges arising. It will present a few real-world applications of blockchain technology in IP intensive industries, that shows how these industries can benefit from blockchain technology in the future.

Marc Kaufman is a partner in Rimon’s FinTech, Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain, and Intellectual Property groups. Marc Kaufman concentrates his practice in the area of patent strategy, in particular, advising clients in protecting, managing and monetizing their intellectual property assets. He has represented clients in defending against patent assertions in district courts and through post-grant administrative proceedings in the U.S. Patent Office, such as Inter Partes Reviews. Mr. Kaufman has been active in creating procedures to secure and enforce intellectual property rights, as well as structuring and negotiating intellectual property transactions. Marc’s practice focuses on computer software including the areas of Fintech, database technology, content distribution, and computer security. Over the last several years, Marc has actively monitored and analyzed the emerging patent landscape related to blockchain technology and cryptocurrency.
