The County of Santa Clara Appoints Rimon Associate Michael Vargas as Chair of the Santa Clara County Commission

The County of Santa Clara has appointed Rimon Associate Michael Vargas as Chair of the Santa Clara County Commission on Equal Access and Employment Opportunity.
The purpose of the Commission is to advise the Board of Supervisors, the County Executive, employee groups, community groups, and the public at large on ways to promote equal access and opportunity; create and maintain accessible programs, services, and work environments able to meet the needs of a diverse and multicultural population; and prevent discrimination and harassment in all areas of County employment and County service on account of race, religious belief, color, national origin, culture, ancestry, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, marital status, mental disability, physical disability, medical condition, political belief, veterans status, organizational affiliation or association with any individual in any of these groups, and contracting opportunities in accordance with applicable federal, state and County regulations.
As Chair, Mr. Vargas’s role will be to set the agenda of the Commission and be the principal point of contact between the Commission, the county executive, and the board of supervisors. Mr. Vargas will report directly to the County’s elected board of supervisors and work closely with the County’s Equal Opportunity Department, the County Counsel’s office, and the new Division of Equity and Social Justice to ensure they have the resources and information necessary to effectively monitor and enforce federal, state, and county EEO policy.
