George Washington University Program Grants 10 Full-Ride Scholarships Named after Rimon’s Stephen Trachtenberg

For the 29th consecutive year, the George Washington University granted ten full scholarships to incoming freshmen covering four years’ tuition, room, board and books. Created in 1989, the program was renamed the “Stephen Joel Trachtenberg Scholarship Program” in 1999 to honor GW’s President Emeritus and Professor of Public Service — and Rimon Partner — Stephen Joel Trachtenberg.

The winning students were surprised in their classrooms as their families, University President Steven Knapp, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions Costas Solomou, and the Colonial mascot arrived with the news that they had won full rides to the University.

The SJT scholarship program is one of many GW initiatives aimed at improving access to a college education for high-achieving students of all backgrounds. GW’s July 2015 announcement that it will no longer require most undergraduate applicants to submit SAT or ACT test scores was another. Since 1989, the SJT scholarship program has enrolled 174 District of Columbia students with full-ride scholarships covering all four years of their undergraduate education. GW selects students based on high school academic performance, strength of curriculum, recommendations, leadership qualities, community service, extracurricular activities and achievements and standardized test scores.
