Venture Capital and Technology Attorney, Dror Futter, joins Rimon as Partner in its New Jersey and New York City offices

News March 15, 2017

Dror Futter joins Rimon Law as a Partner in the areas of Venture Capital and Technology. Bringing more than 20 years of high tech and business experience, Mr. Futter represents emerging companies and their investors, as well as a wide range of technology companies.

Commenting on his transition, Mr. Futter stated: “I love working with innovators and in Rimon, I have found a team of legal entrepreneurs. The firm’s operating model has stripped away much of the overhead that adds cost but does not deliver value to clients. The firm’s economic model gives attorneys greater freedom to structure the terms of their client engagements. At the same time, Rimon has assembled a best-in-class roster of experienced practitioners. In other words, Rimon proves that high quality and reasonable rates are not a contradiction in terms.”

Mr. Futter has been in almost every legal role in the venture capital community.   He started as the General Counsel of New Venture Partners, a VC fund focused on corporate spinouts. While there, he helped to form funds, and advised multiple start-ups and corporate spin-offs in the information technology and telecommunications industries, as well as serving as the venture fund’s legal counsel. In addition, during his tenure at New Venture Partners, Mr. Futter negotiated, structured and documented strategic alliances with Lucent Technologies, British Telecom and Philips and handled the acquisitions of assets and IP of over twenty ventures from those companies and others such as Intel, IBM, Boeing, Freescale, Unilever, IDEO, Maxim and Telstra.

Next, Mr. Futter became the General Counsel of Vidyo, Inc., a venture-backed videoconferencing company.  While there the company more than tripled in size from 80 to 300 employees, while sales more than tripled. As a result, Mr. Futter is very familiar with the challenges and opportunities, as well as the 24×7 pace, of high growth companies. As the sole in house attorney and with a limited legal budget, he became adept at advising on a wide range of topics such as IP and IT transactional agreements, supply chain agreements, direct and indirect channel agreements, Internet/ecommerce matters, data privacy and employment law.

After many years in-house, Mr. Futter returned to private practice, most recently as a partner in the Corporate Department and the Venture Practice at the McCarter & English law firm. The focus of his practice continues to be the members of the venture capital ecosystem, as well as more mature technology companies.

In addition to his existing transactional practice, Mr. Futter, who is fluent in Hebrew, believes that Rimon will be an excellent platform for him to expand his representation of Israel companies starting operations in the U.S. Mr. Futter also intends to take advantage of Rimon’s economic model to structure “Fractional GC” engagements in which clients engage him as an external general counsel on a flat fee basis.

“Dror’s extensive in-house and outside counsel experience add to our growing venture capital and technology practice groups that span from Silicon Valley to New York and Tel Aviv. He understands the needs and business perspectives of our clients, acting as strategic counsel throughout their business life cycles,” said Rimon CEO Michael Moradzadeh.

Rimon, which has 17 offices internationally, is at the vanguard of legal innovation. The firm has been repeatedly recognized by the Financial Times as one of North America’s most innovative law firms. The firm’s managing partners were both named ‘Legal Rebels’ by the American Bar Association’s ABA Journal and have spoken on innovations in the practice of law at Harvard and Stanford Law Schools. Rimon and its lawyers have also received numerous awards for excellence, including from Best Lawyers and Chambers.
