Rimon recently launched a Project Finance practice with addition of former Baker McKenzie heavy weight, John Murphy, reports Lily Squires of Latin Lawyer.

John will work alongside Lisa-Marie Monsanto advising investors, project sponsors, concessionaires, developers, private sector banks and multilateral and bilateral public sector development financial institutions in the evaluation, development and financing of power and infrastructure projects (including Public-Private Partnerships (P3)), in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Fluent in Spanish, John has a deep focus on projects in Latin America, which is a great fit for Rimon, which is led by Mexican-American Managing Partner and international transactions attorney, Juan Zúñiga.  Rimon has a local office in Bogotá, Colombia with four attorneys. Rimon also has a strong presence in Latin America through international trade focused Partner firm Ibarra Rimon, which also has an office in Bogotá and opened an office in Medellín earlier this year.

Having studied abroad in Spain and lived, worked and traveled extensively in Latin America and the Caribbean, John has familiarity with local customs and culture, market practices and civil law and common law concepts, all of which guide him in his business-oriented approach to advising clients and helping them solve complex challenges that arise in international engagements.

The new Rimon Project Finance team will help clients navigate the structuring, development and financing of complex cross-border energy and infrastructure projects, including public-private partnerships (P3), advising parties including project companies, sponsors, lenders, participants, agents, arrangers, underwriters, placement agents, investors and host government entities in relation to a wide range of projects, including the financing of power generation (including from solar, wind and other renewable resources), transportation, telecommunications, water, mining, oil & gas, hotel, resort and recreational facilities, manufacturing facilities, government facilities, and social impact transactions.

John graduated from Georgetown University Law Center (J.D.), Georgetown University McDonough School of Business (M.B.A.), and Georgetown University, Walsh School of Foreign Service (B.S.F.S., cum laude).
